The Best Earthquake of the Day: Geologists with Auckland GeoNet announced today that seismic activity recorded during the Foo Fighters’ Tuesday night concert at Western Springs was “similar to volcanic tremors.”
In other words, they literally rocked the place.
50,000 attendees and the band’s powerful sound system are believed to be the source of the event. “The ground was shaking three times per second in a nice rhythmic motion,” said GeoNet Outreach Coordinator Sara Page.
The last time a man-made tremor of this magnitude was picked up by Auckland instruments was during the Rugby World Cup finals, which took place in late October.
